What’s more American that Willie Dixon, Members? Absofuckinlutely nothin! Not hot dogs, not war, not complete distain for the global metric system. If one person’s biography could sum up our deranged beautiful society, it’s his. Like Dixon, the Blues are really at the heart of everything us violent transplants do, and, also like Dixon, we’ve been fucked by the British a time or two (yet always opt to settle out of court). So this week, as one that contains both Mr. Dixon’s birthday and the 4th of July, let’s forego the usual displays of nationalism and, instead, put on some music and ponder his wisdom: “The world has made everything else and still it can’t make peace. And the reason it can’t make peace is because of the evil, ignorance and stupidity. I have songs that explain these facts. And that’s the blues.”
