Today, you are a member of… 1984

It’s probably not what George Orwell envisioned when his masterwork went to print on this day back in 1949. In fact, the 1984 that transpired, though heavily shoulder-padded, actually had more individuality than Mr. Orwell imagined. And, arguably, it had more variation than our present era, what with the extant Old-Navy-Instagram-Flash Player conformity branding us out the wazoo for the benefit of Kim Kardashian and Mitt Romney alike. But one thing is for sure, Members: this week, 1984 has its merits and relevancies. And whether you bone up your literary chops by rereading the allegory of Winston Smith or dance dirty like a virgin Madonna, do something to make the Return of Morning in America feel like something other than a closed book.
