Today, you are a member of… Service with a Magnetron

microwaveThis week back in 1945, Percy Lebaron Spencer, an engineer at Raytheon working on RADAR filed a patent based on something funny happening in his pants. While standing too close to a test magnetron (the high powered vacuum tube that generates microwaves core to RADAR), a candy bar residing in Spencer’s pocket started to melt. He took notice, tried popping some corn and frying an egg next and ding! a world with Hot Pockets and Act II–not to mentioned several urban legends about cats, poodles, and babies suffering at the hands of elderly ladies and stoned babysitters. Point is, Whether it’s a canary in a coal mine or an altered candy bar in your pants, this week has omens galore. As such members, pay attention to what’s being served up as done.
