Mr. Potato Head’s dapper attire notwithstanding, potatos aren’t exactly the symbol of remarkableness or pizzaz. Much like the coming week, they don’t have the fire of a chili or the sophistication of asparagus. They’re not the topic of controversy like eggplant or exotic like mangos. Even when dressed up as salad or a side dish, potatos can’t shake its tuber everyman image. And yet, the United Nations General Assembly deemed 2008 the International Year of the Potato. Mundanity aside, the potato has some serious glory comin’ its way. So if you find yourself thinking “a week is a week is a week” as you wend your way from Friday to Friday, remember that even the most inauspicious items sometimes get excelsiored. So keep your top hat (or tiara) handy.
