Today, you are a member of… Your Act

Time to make like the members of the First Federal Congress, members. This week way back in 1789, after weather delays and quorums and committees and votes, this nation’s first gang of Representatives and Senators got their post Constitution-ratifying act together and presented An Act to Regulate The Time and Manner of Administering Certain Oaths – their first bill – to President George Washington, which he then signed into law on June 1st. The law, still in effect, simply requires that after each election and at the first meeting of congress all our civic servants must swear to uphold the Constitution. Similar to this feat, this week is all about getting it together by having a party with the details.
